Hogebrug closed off from mid-February

The first phase of the Leie works in Harelbeke has started. The programme for the coming months involves the construction of a temporary dam on ‘Moleneiland’, the construction of a new quay wall and the preparations for the demolition of the ‘Hogebrug’. The contractor is currently laying the foundations for a temporary bridge for cyclists and pedestrians near to the fire station. Trees are also being uprooted in various places around the Leie.

Leie works in Harelbeke

The Leie works in Harelbeke are part of the European subsidised Seine-Scheldt project wherein the waterway between both rivers is being adapted for larger vessels. In Harelbeke, these works connect seamlessly with the renovation of the town centre. Under the heading "h^aqua”, the centre and the Leie are undergoing a complete transformation that will make the city more attractive.
