In Veurne, the new Babelutte Bridge is gradually taking its final form. This pedestrian and cycling bridge spans the Nieuwpoort–Dunkirk Canal, connecting both banks.
Meanwhile, the approach ramps on both sides of the bridge have been successfully installed. The works are being carried out by a temporary partnership between Herbosch-Kiere and Almex, commissioned by De Vlaamse Waterweg and the City of Veurne.
Starting in the spring of 2026, the bridge will provide a smooth and safe connection between Voetbalstraat and the Nieuwstad neighbourhood on one side, and Noordburgweg and the Petit-Paris district on the other. This will make it much easier for residents to travel safely and comfortably between the different neighbourhoods and the city centre.
Thanks to the wide approach ramps and the gentle gradient, cyclists and pedestrians will be able to cross the bridge with ease.
The design has also been carefully developed: the Babelutte Bridge blends harmoniously into the landscape and takes into account the historical and recreational character of the surrounding area.
