On behalf of De Vlaamse Waterweg nv, we are replacing the outdated Spanjeveer Bridge over the Moervaart between Mendonk and Sint-Kruis-Winkel near Ghent with a completely new integral steel-concrete bridge. The former bridge from the 1970s had been built as a temporary solution and no longer met modern requirements for traffic safety and flow. The renewal will significantly improve both road accessibility and safety for pedestrians, cyclists, and motorized traffic.
The new bridge will retain a single traffic lane for motorized vehicles (4 m wide) but will include a separated, safe zone for pedestrians and cyclists. The bridge span will be more compact, with a length of approximately 40 m, while the approach ramps will be extended and widened at the top to allow vehicles to pass each other more smoothly.
