An important milestone has been reached for the ‘Borchtbrug’ project in Mechelen. The steel bridge deck of the new pedestrian and cycling bridge has been successfully installed across the Afleidingsdijle. The bridge deck measures 43 metres in length and weighs 69 tonnes.
Herbosch-Kiere is delivering this project in collaboration with CSM Steelstructures on behalf of De Vlaamse Waterweg. The new bridge, located at Domain De Borcht, will connect Nekkerspoel with Douaneplein, creating an important link in Mechelen’s cycling and pedestrian network. The project will contribute to safer, more sustainable, and more efficient mobility for cyclists and pedestrians.
Over the coming weeks, the finishing works will be carried out. If everything proceeds according to schedule, the bridge will be officially opened and brought into service at the end of June.
We are proud to contribute our expertise to the construction of this new connection, which will further improve the accessibility and quality of life in Mechelen.
