New Misiabrug in Halle solemnly inaugurated
Six months ahead of schedule, the new bridge ‘Misia’ in the city of Halle is ready to be opened to traffic. Today, the arched bridge over the Charleroi Canal was inaugurated amid great interest.
Characteristics of the bridge:
- The length of the bridge is 113 metres;
- The useful width of the bridge is 15 metres;
- The height of the arches is 13.80 metres;
- The steel frame of the bridge weighs 837 tonnes;
- On the left bank, a new vertical embankment wall was built over a distance of 84.7 m at the turning basin. The right bank was widened over a distance of 368 m with a new vertical bank wall. These bank walls consist of concrete secant piles and ground anchors that were drilled into the rock.
De Vlaamse Waterweg nv invested over 15 million euros in the construction of the bridge.
