Commissioned by De Vlaamse Waterweg, Herbosch-Kiere is building a new bicycle and pedestrian bridge in Ingelmunster across the Roeselare–Leie Canal, as part of the Leie modernisation within the Seine–Schelde programme. This European investment prepares the waterway for larger inland vessels and promotes sustainable transport alternatives.

The bridge will feature access ramps of over 300 metres, designed as wide, flowing loops. On the northern bank, the structure is built on pillars due to the area’s flood sensitivity, while on the southern bank embankments and raised sections ensure a natural transition to the surrounding landscape. In parallel, new nature-friendly riverbanks are being constructed, with shaped fore- and middle banks and additional ecological features.

With a clearance height of 7 metres, the bridge will soon allow vessels carrying three layers of containers to pass safely. In this way, we enhance both recreational connections and the overall efficiency of inland navigation.
