Quay wall Ford Genk

On behalf of De Vlaamse Waterweg nv, Herbosch-Kiere contributed to the construction of a new 430-meter-long quay wall at Ford Genk, along with the associated infrastructure and site development.

The new quay wall was constructed by supplying and installing sheet piles (1,290 tons), executing pile foundations, and building a concrete capping beam with the corresponding anchors. In total, 211 ground anchors and 180 tie anchors were installed, tested, and commissioned to ensure the stability of the structure. The space between the existing and the new construction was filled with underwater concrete. Ladders and bollards were installed, and the quay deck was prepared with pavements and foundations, including provisions for a crane rail and stacking area.

In parallel, extensive earthworks and dredging were carried out, as well as the installation of sewer systems and, where applicable, utilities such as electricity. Areas were also excavated and prepared for construction for the terminal and ICL zones. Additionally, the works included the renovation of an existing concrete capping beam in the waiting harbor.

Throughout the entire execution, strict conditions were observed, including ensuring the passage of shipping, minimizing canal occupancy, and guaranteeing accessibility for surrounding businesses. The various works were largely carried out in overlapping phases to ensure progress and continuity.
