Bridge Genk

In order to make the Albert Canal navigable along its entire length for four-layer container ships, the clearance height under all the bridges over the Albert Canal had to be a minimum of 9.10 m above the normal level of the canal. The N76 bridge over the Albert Canal was also raised +/- 2 m.

Herbosch-Kiere carried out the following works: Adjustment of the road profile, jacking-up of the bridge, demolition works on the abutments, adjustment and reinforcement of the abutments and piers to the new clearance height, adjustment of the approach slopes and jacking-down of the bridge to the required level. When adjusting the road profile, the 2 x 2 lane profile was incorporated but a two-way cycle path was provided on the downstream side of the bridge.
