SCALDIS, the Belgian subsidiary of Herbosch-Kiere, Jan De Nul Group and Deme, together with BOA Offshore, carried out the salvaging of the Norwegian frigate KNM Helge Ingstad. SCALDIS developed a revolutionary lifting method specially for this project by combining its two heavy lifting vessels RAMBIZ and GULLIVER.
The Norwegian frigate collided with the Sola TS tanker on 8 November 2018 close to Bergen (Norway) and sank on the slope of a fjord. SCALDIS developed a revolutionary lifting method specially for this project by combining its two heavy lifting vessels: Rambiz, with two cranes and a total lifting capacity of 3300 tons, and the new lifting vessel Gulliver, also with two cranes and a total lifting capacity of 4000 tons. This unique Double Duo Lift method gives SCALDIS a combined total lifting capacity of 7300 tons, enabling the 133-metre-long and 5500-ton frigate to be raised in one piece.
Because the four cranes work synchronously, it was possible to lift the wreck in one continuous operation and restore it to a horizontal position.
